Miami Heat

The scouting department

Jimmy Butler‘s fit with such a versatile roster remains a frightening process (in a good way) to monitor, but serious props are due to the Miami Heat‘s scouting department and the gems they routinely unearth.

A quick glance at the roster shows Kendrick Nunn, the team’s second-leading scorer at 16.9 points per game, as one success story for an undrafted rookie. But what the Heat have done with other former undrafted players like Duncan Robinson, Derrick Jones Jr. and Chris Silva on top of that is remarkable.

Even two of Miami’s own drafted rookies — Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro — were controversial picks that look brilliant in hindsight. Scouting is not the foundation of the Heat’s success, but all those names serve as a testament to the prowess of Heat culture and their player development.
