San Antonio Spurs

22 years is still pretty damn good

At 6-12, the San Antonio Spurs might be as disappointing as Team USA’s time at the FIBA World Cup. This was supposed to be Dejounte Murray‘s breakout season coming back from an ACL tear, complete with an improved defense, plus two All-Stars in LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan carrying the offense with their unconventional (for today’s game) mid-range talents.

Instead, the Spurs’ defense has slid to bottom-five territory despite Murray’s return. San Antonio has now lost nine of its last 10 games, including an eight-game skid that marks the longest losing streak of Pop’s prestigious coaching tenure with the Spurs. It is entirely possible their record playoff streak finally comes to an end in 2020.

With that being said, 22 straight years with a postseason appearance is an unbelievable achievement, even with getting to 23 and breaking the all-time record among all four major spots just ahead. All good things must come to an end, but even if the Spurs fall one year short of setting the new playoff streak record, even coming close to tying it is something this fanbase should never take for granted.
