2. Joe Burrow’s arrival

When Joe Burrow transferred from Ohio State and took over as LSU’s starting quarterback last season, it was clear that the Ohio native was an upgrade for the Tigers at the position. The program had struggled mightily to find a positive performer under center for quite some time and, at the very least, Burrow provided them stability there last season.

But what Burrow has done in the 2019 college football season has been nothing short of remarkable. He was not on the Heisman radar, not heavily on the NFL Draft radar and really not all that much in the conversation for the sport as a whole when the year began. And for a player that completed 57.8 percent of his passes, had just 2,894 yards passing and 16 touchdowns last year, you can’t blame anyone for not seeing this year coming.

Despite how impossible it was to see coming, though, Burrow has been unbelievably good for the Tigers in 2019. With 4,014 passing yards, 41 touchdowns and a 78.9 percent completion rate, the LSU signal-caller has put forth one of the most impressive single-season runs from a quarterback — particularly one to come almost out of nowhere — that we’ve ever seen.

Fans shouldn’t just be grateful that Burrow got LSU out of quarterback purgatory so that Ed Orgeron’s team can compete at the highest level but they should also be thankful that they get to see a player raise his stock to such incredible degrees and play this game at such a high level.
