6. Willie Taggart is gone and now Florida State can start to recover

You don’t have to be a Florida State Seminoles fan to be upset with what Willie Taggart did during his tenure in Tallahassee. Perhaps one of the most disastrous hires that we’ve seen by a big-time college football program in quite some time, Taggart took a hot-bed for talent and a roster that should have been competing for ACC Championships with a team like Clemson and absolutely sunk them into mediocrity (or worse).

Even if you’re a fan of a Florida State rival and have no love lost for the Seminoles, the simple fact remains that the sport is better when a traditionally great program like that is competitive at the top of their league or even in the national scope. But under Taggart, they were more punchline than actual competitor and it was tough to see their dramatic fall from grace.

Thankfully, Taggart is now gone. And while that may not matter all too much for the Seminoles at the end of the 2019 season — though a win in the rivalry game over Florida to end the regular season would certainly taste quite sweet — the overall outlook for Florida State has to be looking good as of right now. It’s addition by subtraction with the head coach.

Yes, this program still has to make a smarter hire moving forward if they want to rebuild, recover and get back to prominence. But at the same time, they have put themselves in position to do just that and actually capitalize on the immense talent they still have in Tallahassee and get back to being the dangerous, fun and capable FSU team that fans have come to appreciate over the years now that Taggart is gone.
