6. Clay Helton – USC

When it comes to potential soon-to-be openings across the college football landscape, all eyes are on the USC job right now. Everyone knows that Clay Helton is walking a fine line as the Trojans eye big names.

With a new Athletic Director and USC looking to return to its glory days, Helton in all reality is probably not long for the job. The announcement of a change is probably in the not so distant future.

With the Urban Meyer rumors and the fact that the Trojans can throw plenty of money at any big-name coach, Helton’s likely on his way out.

USC finished the regular season 8-4, which isn’t a bad season considering the fact they’ve had to cycle through multiple quarterbacks due to injuries. Still, the whispers have become screams and it’s no secret what this program wants to do.

Helton did a good job of stabilizing the ship amid injuries this season and it’s a good thing he did, considering the disastrous 5-7 campaign in 2018. Is it enough to make USC happy and keep his job? Honestly, no.
