5. Mark Dantonio – Michigan State

In 13 seasons with the Michigan State Spartans, Mark Dantonio has seen plenty of success. He has coached the Spartans to Big Ten Championships and even a College Football Playoff berth, which many programs can’t boast.

That being said, those accomplishments are getting further and further in the rearview mirror. Three of the last four seasons have been disastrous or subpar to say the very least for the Spartans.

Michigan last won 10 games in 2017, but the year before that, they only won three games. In 2018, they won seven games and now this season, they’re in danger of missing a bowl game unless they win their regular-season finale this weekend.

The Spartans should be able to take care of business at home against Maryland.  A loss would be disastrous and the flames on the hot seat would certainly be turned all the way up on Dantonio.

Even if the Spartans win, the program has to take a long look at the state of the program. Dantonio is a proven coach, but they haven’t been a real conference contender in quite some time now. No one will be surprised if he’s given another year to get the Spartans right.
