16. San Jose Sharks

There’s no arguing that the San Jose Sharks’ jerseys are some of the best and most attractive sweaters the NHL has to offer. However, the Teal’s alternate uniforms are disappointing.

Prior to these “stealth” themed jerseys being unveiled last season, the Sharks carried two other black alternates. Both were well accepted by most, especially since San Jose could rock a black alternate jersey – unlike a team such as the Washington Capitals prior to changing their colors back to red, white and blue in 2006-07.

The colors teal, black and white look great together. Still, there’s only black and a hint of teal on these sweaters. Again, similar to other jerseys on the bottom half of this list, it looks more like a fashion jersey you can find on NHL.com. You know, the one your brother-in-law buys because he thought it “looked” cool and instead was actually the team’s third jersey.

The whole “stealth” theme idea isn’t a bad concept, but this jersey needs a few minor tweaks. The primary logo shouldn’t have been blacked out; and why we love the Sharks’ old school fin logo – again the two-color scheme takes away from the beauty of San Jose’s brand.

Though, there’s one subtle aspect to this sweater that teams may start replicating more of while paying homage to region. Between the two teal stripes on the sweater’s sleeve is a tribute to the area’s “tech culture” with a circuit pattern that displays “SJ.”

Not too shabby, right?

Also, the Sharks made the right decision to have the numbers on the back of the jersey filled in as white and outlined in teal. That aspect makes the jersey stand out in a positive and eye-catching way – all the more reason to fill in a few more areas on this sweater white, no?
