Heisman rankings Week 14: Joe Burrow leaving no doubt
8. Ja’Marr Chase, WR, LSU
As we’ve said before, all of the accolades for the LSU Tigers offense this season have gone the way of quarterback Joe Burrow and deservedly so. At the same time, no one can possibly overlook the performance of Ja’Marr Chase this season as the sophomore wide receiver has been near-unstoppable in the passing game. That was on display fully in Baton Rouge as the Tigers routed the Texas A&M Aggies.
Chase dominated Jimbo Fisher’s secondary as he hauled in seven receptions for 197 yards and two touchdowns, outscoring the Aggies (7) by himself. For the season now, Chase has 70 receptions for 1,457 yards and 17 touchdowns on the year, which is just incredible production, especially from a true sophomore. His spot in the top 10 of these Heisman rankings is as secure as can be.
7. Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
It’s somewhat hard to believe that there was a time in the 2019 college football season when everyone was starting to question Clemson Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Admittedly, the sophomore signal-caller was pedestrian at best early in the season. However, he’s turned on the jets in a major way over the second half of the season and put an exclamation point on that in the rivalry win over South Carolina.
“Sunshine” smoothly went 26-of-36 for 295 yards with three touchdowns and no picks, giving him 16 touchdowns and no interceptions over his last five games. Moreover, he was also the Tigers’ leading rusher on the day with 66 yards. Lawrence may not get the invite to New York this season thanks to the slow start but he’s more than salvaged his season with a strong finish to the year.
