When Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits streaming services after its theatrical run, where will it land? On Disney Plus.

The entire point of Disney+ is that it will be the exclusive home to all the content Disney owns, and this includes Star Wars. A big selling point is that the service will soon feature all of the movies on a single streaming service for the very first time. This includes Episode IX, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, coming straight to Disney+ once the film leaves theaters.

It is the same situation that all the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies (post-Captain Marvel) are in. Everything now goes straight to Disney+ (except for the Spider-Man films as that is in a different boat because of Sony).

But, back to Star Wars. The entire franchise will be on Disney+ a lot sooner than the entirety of the MCU. In fact, by summer 2020, everything Star Wars including The Rise of Skywalker will be under one Disney-run roof.

It is not yet known when exactly Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker will land on Disney+, but it is likely to happen before Solo: A Star Wars Story leaves Netflix in June. The Last Jedi, also released in December, came to Netflix in June, so it would make sense if The Rise of Skywalker came to Disney+ at around the same time — possibly June 2020.

As for the main Skywalker Saga films, there is only one hold out not currently on Disney+ as Star Wars: The Last Jedi is still on Netflix until Dec. 26, 2019. Unfortunately, this means that a binge of the entire saga before seeing Rise of Skywalker still requires two streaming services. Disney tried its best to get all of its Star Wars content back before Disney+ launched, but those last two Netflix deals made this impossible.

Disney was able to work out a last-minute deal with Starz to get The Force Awakens back in time for Disney+’s launch. Part of the deal involved Disney+ agreeing to show a one-time Starz promo for subscribers who signed up after the Nov. 12 launch.

Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker will be released in theaters on Dec. 20, 2019. The movie will come to Disney+ a few months later.
