1. Mike Miller

No, not that Mike Miller.

According to The Athletic‘s Shams Charania, Knicks assistant Mike Miller will step in as interim head coach, making the job his to lose for the time being. This is his first season on the Knicks coaching staff after serving as the head coach of the franchise’s G League affiliate, the Westchester Knicks, for the last four years.

During that time, he posted a 108-92 record and won the Coach of the Year award in 2016-17 with a 32-18 record. Opting for a coach who specializes in player development will be beneficial for the Knicks in the short-term, given that RJ Barrett, Mitchell Robinson, Kevin Knox and Frank Ntilikina should be the central focus in a season that’s already lost.

This is basically a trial period for Miller and the Knicks, who should still conduct a thorough and exhaustive interview process at the end of the season no matter what happens for the rest of the 2019-20 campaign.

If Miller thrives and the Knicks’ mismanaged roster doesn’t look as lost as it’s been in the first two months of the season, he may prove himself as the most deserving candidate. If not, the Knicks will have plenty of other options to consider.
