3. Struggling Everton beaten by Chelsea

Everton’s season has gone from bad to worse this week and Marco Silva’s time at the club has come to an end. The Portuguese manager was been given more time than many expected to try and turn things around at Goodison Park but unfortunately for him he’s failed.

Everton put in a spirited performance in the Merseyside derby in midweek but their defensive frailty was there for all to see as Liverpool demolished them 5-2.

Considering the money that’s been spent at Everton and the players that Silva’s had at his disposal, it’s not been good enough this season. The Merseyside club should be comfortably in the top half of the table and knocking on the door of the top six but instead they are languishing in the depths of the Premier League.

This week they host Chelsea in Saturday’s early kick-off. Currently it’s hard to see anything other than a Chelsea victory but the managerial change could give the Everton players some new life.

Frank Lampard’s Chelsea have been great this season and are sitting comfortably six points clear in fourth place. A top-four finish would be a great result for Lampard in his first year coaching in the Premier League but he’ll need to ensure his side don’t get complacent – especially considering the young players who are key to the squad.

The likes of Tammy Abraham, Reece James and Mason Mount have been brilliant this season but there’s the slight chance that they could take their form for granted. Therefore, it’s Lampard’s job to ensure he keeps those players grounded and if he does then his side will have a very good chance of achieving that top four spot.

This match will be a tighter affair than many expect but Chelsea will still come away with all three points. Mount and Abraham will score for the Blues while Richarlison will find the back of the net for Everton in a 2-1 loss.
