Borussia Monchengladbach has been the biggest surprise in the Bundesliga through 13 games. The Foals are first in the table, one point ahead of RB Leipzig and four points ahead of the defending champions Bayern Munich. The Bavarians are looking to capture their eighth straight Bundesliga title.

After a surprising loss to Union Berlin, Gladbach bounced back last weekend, beating Freiburg 4-2. Manager Marco Rose was an inspired off-season fire by the Foals. Instead of the usual Bundesliga retreats, Gladbach hired the former RB Salzburg manager. Rose has helped lead Gladbach to the Bundesliga’s best record. The Foals are third in the Bundesliga with 28 goals and second in goals conceded, allowing only 15. If that combination continues, Monchengladbach will be in the hunt for the title all season long.

Bayern Munich suffered their first loss under interim manager Hans-Dieter Flick, losing 2-1 to Bayer Leverkusen. Despite the loss, Bayern has backed the interim manager and the club does not seem interested in hiring a full-time replacement in the middle of the season. Flick has been tasked with trying to fix Bayern broken defense. With Lucas Hernandez and Niklas Sule sidelined with long-term injuries, Flick has been forced to use a makeshift center-back pairing of David Alaba and Javi Martinez. While Bayern have suffered through several injuries at the back, they have been able to outscore many of their defensive problems. Robert Lewandowski is having the best season of his career. The Polish striker has a Bundesliga best 16 goals this season and has an incredible 27 goals in all competitions this season.
