NBA DFS: Studs, scrubs, and duds for December 9
Duds
Wendell Carter (vs TOR – $6,200 on DK; $7,500 on FD): WCJ is fairly consistent but it’s a tough matchup on Monday. The Raptors will look to feast after a disappointing loss to the 76ers and the Bulls are in the way. Maybe he gets you value, but his ceiling isn’t high and there is a very real chance he doesn’t reach his salary value.
D’Angelo Russell (vs MEM – $7,700 on DK; $7,900 on FD): Russell still isn’t playing big minutes, certainly not the minutes he needs to play to justify the salary. The Grizzlies are good against the position and this could be a grinding game given the lack of talent on both sides. There is better value below Russell.
Jonas Valanciunas (at GS – $7,100 on DK; $8,800 on FD): The Warriors might not be good overall but they are excellent against the position. Valanciunas is usually good for a double double but even if he achieves it in this one, don’t expect big totals in either category and certainly not quite enough to justify the salary.
Kawhi Leonard (at IND – $8,300 on DK; $9,400 on FD): The Pacers are very good against the position and with PG returning to Indiana again, chances are they’ll try to get him going a bit. That means Kawhi takes a backseat. He’ll probably end up with a strong assist outing but look for George to do the bulk of the scoring. If Kawhi sits, George then falls into the category as more pressure will be on him against a sound defense.
Steven Adams (at UTA – $6,400 on DK; $7,400 on FD): Adams has been better in recent games but he typically struggles against Gobert and the Jazz. Coming off a back to back when there are health concerns as it is, he’s not worth the risk. Find value below him with better matchups.
