10 best bowl games in the history of college football
6. 2017 National Title – Clemson vs. Alabama
Clemson and Alabama have played four times in the college football playoff, but it was their second matchup that will go down in history. Everyone was looking forward to the rematch after Alabama pulled out a 45-40 win in the previous title game.
And for most of this rematch, it looked like Alabama was on it was on its way to winning a second straight national title. They led 24-14 into the fourth quarter, but Deshaun Watson refused to let his team go down as he did his best Vince Young impersonation scoring 14 straight points to give the Tigers a 28-24 lead. However, Alabama, as they have throughout the Saban-era, responded with a drive of their own to reclaim the lead as Jalen Hurts scored from 30-yards out to make the score 31-28 Tide.
Now with just over two minutes left and facing an elite defense, it was up to Watson to put together one last drive. He did just that, going 68-yards on nine plays and capped it off with a touchdown pass to Hunter Renfrow with only one second left on the clock.
Clemson had avenged their loss from the previous season, and Watson established himself as an iconic figure not only at Clemson but in college football history. Much like Vince Young from a decade prior.
