Shakhtar Donetsk face Atalanta at OSK Metalist on Wednesday, Dec. 11. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
The Champions League group stage finishes on Wednesday with Shakhtar Donetsk host Atalanta. Shakhtar enter the game second in the group, one point ahead of Dinamo Zagreb and two points ahead of Atalanta. With a win on Wednesday, Shakhtar will advance to the Champions League knockout stage and eliminate the Italian club from European competitions. However, if Atalanta win and Dinamo Zagreb do not beat Manchester City, the Italian club will advance to the Champions League knockout stage for the first time in club history.
Shakhtar are running away with the Ukrainian Premier League, holding a 13-point lead over Zorya Luhansk. Donetsk have only lost to two clubs in all competitions this season, Manchester City and Dynamo Kyiv. In the first game between Shakhtar and Atalanta, the Ukrainian club won 2-1. Donetsk will hope for a repeat performance in the return fixture. Junior Moraes scored in the first game against Atalanta and will be a key player in the reverse fixture. Moraes leads the club with 16 goals in all competitions this season.
Atalanta got off to a terrible start in their first Champions League appearance. The Goddess lost their first three games in the group stage before holding Manchester City to a draw and beating Dinamo Zagreb. Atalanta are again fighting for a top-four spot in Serie A. After 15 games, the Goddess are sixth in the table, one point behind fourth-place Cagliari. Atalanta will use their attacking style to create chances and breakdown Shakhtar’s defense. The Goddess will rely on Luis Muriel to find the back of the net. Muriel leads the club with 10 goals this season.

While the Champions League knockout stage is the preferable route, both Shakhtar and Atalanta can drop down to the Europa League knockout stage if they finish third. If Shakhtar and Atalanta draw and Dinamo win, Shakhtar will drop to the Europa League. If Atlanta win and Dinamo win, the Goddess will move to the Europa Leauge and Shakhtar will be eliminated from Europa.
