Fantasy Football – Quarterback

Boom: Ryan Tannehill, TEN vs. HOU

In a matter of just eight weeks, Tannehill has gone from shaky streaming option to viable every-week starter. The 31-year-old is having the best statistical season of his career with the Titans and has now eclipsed 19 fantasy points in six of seven starts.

In fact, Tannehill’s 22.6 fantasy points per game since Week 7 is second-best in the league behind only Lamar Jackson. In his latest showing, he threw for nearly 400 yards and three touchdowns. He’s been flat-out balling and has become a guy you can trust – even in your fantasy squad’s playoff push.

Tannehill’s schedule hasn’t posed any significant challenges thus far, and he’ll draw another superb home matchup this week with the Texans. Houston’s secondary has been short-handed all season, surrendering the third-most FPPG (22.8) to enemy signal-callers. This unit allowed Broncos’ rookie QB Drew Lock to have a career day (309 yards, three TDs) against them just last week, making this a sweet spot to exploit.

Honorable Mention: Jameis Winston (TB @ DET), Gardner Minshew (JAX @ OAK)

Bust: Aaron Rodgers, GB vs. CHI

The two-time All-Pro’s up-and-down production this season has been puzzling, as he’s had over 27 fantasy points in four games (including a 43.8-point performance), but has dropped below 14 points in seven other contests. Even in what was a should-be smash spot against the Redskins in Week 14, Rodgers was able to come up with just 11.4 points. That type of volatility just simply isn’t going to cut it at this time of the year.

Rodgers has been pressed for luck in recent games against the Bears. Chicago has been incredibly stout against opposing quarterbacks in 2019, allowing them the sixth-fewest FPPG all while losing several key playmakers to injury. This defense gets an added boost this week with Pro Bowl defensive lineman Akiem Hicks expected to return. With Rodgers’ on-and-off production in 2019, it’s difficult to trust him in your lineups at the most crucial time of the season.

Dishonorable Mention: Matt Ryan (ATL @ SF), Sam Darnold, NYJ @ BAL

Sleeper: Eli Manning, NYG vs. MIA

Vintage Eli came to play in the first-half of last week’s game against the Eagles, tossing two touchdowns. Although his play regressed in the second half, he showed he’s still a capable passer. This week, he gets a home matchup with the lowly Dolphins, allowing the fifth-most FPPG (21.8) to QBs.
