If there’s a highly-touted recruit and they want to go to Rutgers, then that means two things. Either they really, really love Rutgers or they’re from the area and want to stay close to home, or both.

Well, it looks like that might be the case for New Jersey running back Jalen Berger. The four-star back is the No. 11 player at his position in the nation and he’s had offers from many big programs, most that have been much more successful than the Scarlet Knights.

Still, the consensus among experts is that Berger is bound to play for Rutgers. If that’s the case, then it would be a huge land for Greg Schiano as he makes his return to the program.

Life in the Big Ten East hasn’t been easy for Rutgers and every coach that has tried to have success has failed since the program moved to the conference.

It’s going to take more than one four-star running back, but there has to be a start somewhere as the Scarlet Knights look to just play competitive football somehow. Berger shows great acceleration and shows great vision when hitting the hole.

Against fronts like Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan in the same division, that’s a must.

Prediction: Rutgers

Longhorns . Alfred Collins. 17. player. 851. . SDE

  • High School: Cedar Creek (Bastrop, TX)
  • Composite Ranking: No. 102, No. 4 SDE

We are on Big 12 watch when it comes to Cedar Creek product Alfred Collins. The defensive lineman from Texas is highly sought after by Texas, Baylor and Oklahoma.

He has offers from other conferences as well, but this chase appears to be one within the conference. Collins has visited Baylor most recently and with the job Matt Rhule has done with that program, they’re an appealing option for any recruit.

Oklahoma has been the lead dog in the conference for some time now and they shouldn’t be ruled out in any recruiting chase in the region. The big question is if Tom Herman will still have the luster when it comes to recruiting at Texas.

The season didn’t go the way the Longhorns wanted and we are still waiting for Texas to officially be back. This recruiting period could tell a lot about the future of the Longhorns under Herman and what recruits are feeling.

If they land the 6-foot-5 and 275-pound defensive lineman that can play anywhere across the line, it will give Texas a nice building block to work with at that position moving forward. But again, this goes beyond one recruit for the Longhorns.

For Herman’s sake, he needs a big class.
