36. Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns, 83.87

  • Roster Strength: 80.48 (84)
  • Team Performance: 83.81 (36)
  • Head Coach Rating: 83.78 (41)

Louisiana head coach Billy Napier has posted a 17-10 record in his two seasons with the Ragin’ Cajuns and has led the team to the Sun Belt Conference Championship games in back-to-back years. The Cajuns fell 45-38 to Appalachian State in the title game last week to finish the regular season 10-3.

Napier, who built an impressive resume as an assistant at Clemson, Alabama and Arizona State before becoming a head coach, is an up-and-comer in the profession and was widely considered a candidate for open coaching jobs in the SEC. Based on how well his team – and specifically his offense, which ranks No. 6 in the country with an average of 7.03 yards per play – has performed, it’s only a matter of time before Napier lands a premium head coaching job.

35. Boise State Broncos, 83.88

  • Roster Strength: 80.26 (87)
  • Team Performance: 85.61 (23)
  • Head Coach Rating: 85.93 (22)

Boise State head coach Bryan Harsin’s name was also connected to several coaching searches, including Missouri’s opening. But Harsin reportedly brushed off potential suitors, and with several of the higher-profile jobs filled elsewhere, he appears committed to his alma mater for at least one more year.

The Broncos, fresh off a 31-10 win over Hawaii in the Mountain West Conference Championship Game, were one close loss to BYU away from an undefeated regular season and a spot in the New Year’s Six. Instead, Harsin (who was forced to start three different quarterbacks this season due to injuries) will lead the Broncos against his former boss, former Boise State coach Chris Petersen, who is set to lead the Washington Huskies for the final time in the Las Vegas Bowl.
