Miami and head coach Chuck Martin led the Redhawks through an up-and-down season, which included falling to 1-3 in non-conference play with all three losses coming against opponents who all spent time ranked by the College Football Playoff committee. Miami split its first two MAC games and then ran off five straight victories to secure the East Division title. After falling to rival Ball State in the regular-season finale, the RedHawks beat Central Michigan in the championship game.
True freshman quarterback Brett Gabbert started every game this season, and running back Jaylon Bester emerged as one of the best in the MAC after missing three early-season games. And Martin, the former Notre Dame offensive coordinator who built one of the most talented rosters in the MAC now has a 30-45 overall record.
