5. Oregon
After close losses to Gonzaga and North Carolina earlier in the season, the Ducks are proving why they deserve to be in the top five. They just earned a big win over top-five opponent Michigan in a game in which they controlled for a majority of the contest before letting Michigan come back to force overtime. Payton Pricthard is one of the best players in the country and he’s the reason the Ducks have been so effective this season. He’s averaging 19 points per game this season and had 23 in the big win over Michigan on Saturday.
4. Louisville
Yes, Louisville suffered a loss to a talented but raw Texas Tech team this past week. But that shouldn’t discourage the Cardinal faithful, as you could kind of see this coming. The offense hadn’t been playing that well leading up to the upset, and it was just a matter of time before that caught up with them. The more important part is that they were able to bounce back with a 99-67 win over Eastern Kentucky. Don’t get caught up on the loss to Texas Tech, that’s just going to be a blip on the radar.
3. Duke
Duke is right back where they belong, in the top five once again after the mass chaos from last week. Of course, it helps that the Blue Devils didn’t have to put their necks on the line this week too. Still, there is no denying that this is one of the best teams in the country and wins over Kansas and Michigan State prove that.
2. Gonzaga
Gonzaga slots into the No. 2 spot after a big victory over Arizona this past week. The Bulldogs now have back-to-back wins over top-25 opponents and three total on the season. The foreign talent that Mark Few loves so much is continuing to pay off for his squad. The return of Frenchman Killian Tilie has been big for the Bulldogs, but the emergence of the Serbian Filip Petrusev has been even bigger for. They will look to keep the momentum rolling against a reeling North Carolina team next week.
1. Kansas
The Kansas Jayhawks stand at the top of the pile after being the only top-five team not to lose this past week. The Jayhawks were in action twice this week, and both contests were routs against Milwaukee and UMKC. Sophomore guard David McCormack had his coming out party with 28 points against UMKC. He is only averaging 9.9 points per game, which is fourth on the team, but if he can continue to produce like that, the Jayhawks have the chance to be very dangerous. Kansas will get a a better test this week against Villanova.
