5 Premier League predictions: Mourinho triumphs over Chelsea in London derby
2. Marcus Rashford leads Manchester United past Watford
Watford welcome Manchester United Vicarage Road in the first of Sunday’s matches. The Hornets have struggled all season which is demonstrated by the fact that they’re already onto their third manager in the space of four months.
Nigel Pearson has taken the helm at Watford and although he has a very difficult task on his hands, he’ll fancy his chances of keeping his team up. Pearson has never been relegated as a manager and he has a reasonably good squad at his disposal to try and climb back up the table.
Watford looked much more organized defensively last weekend in their 2-0 loss at Liverpool. They were eventually undone by some exquisite goals from Mohamed Salah, but Pearson’s side gave a good account of themselves against the runaway league leaders.
More importantly, the Hornets created plenty of goalscoring chances and could have actually beaten the Reds had they had more of a clinical edge. They’ll need to find that edge this weekend if they want to take anything from Manchester United.
United were fortunate to get a point at home to Everton last weekend and they had Mason Greenwood to thank for that as the 18-year-old came on to net the equalizer. Greenwood will probably find himself on the bench again this weekend but if he keeps on putting in performances like that then he may be pushing Anthony Martial or Daniel James out of the team.
Marcus Rashford is the one player in the front three who won’t be pulled from his starting position. The England striker has found his rhythm again and is a danger to all Premier League defenses with his pace and accurate finishing. After a slow start to the season, Rashford has brought his goal tally to 14 and he looks hungry for more.
If Watford play like they did last weekend they’ll stand a good chance of getting something from this match. Manchester United won’t have much more than Watford but they will have Rashford and he will lead United to a 2-0 win with both the goals.
