The Bundesliga title race is extremely close this season. Five points separate first and fifth in the table. On Friday, Hoffenheim host Borussia Dortmund at Rhein-Neckar-Arena. Hoffenheim are ninth in the table with 24 points. Dortmund are tied for third with 30 points.

Under manager Julian Nagelsmann, Hoffenheim went from a team that finished in the middle third of the table to a team that finished in the top four twice. With Nagelsmann now at RB Leipzig, Alfred Schreuder was hired as the new manager. Schreuder has done a good job keeping in contention for a spot in the Europa League despite being one of the smaller clubs in the Bundesliga and selling the majority of their top players in the summer. Die Kraichgauer ended a four-game winless streak, beating Union Berlin 2-0, despite six different players picking up yellow cards. Jurgen Locadia and Andrej Kramaric are tied for the team lead with four goals this season. Both players will be key to Hoffenheim’s attack on Friday if Die Kraichgauer are going to steal points from Dortmund.

Borussia Dortmund are four points behind Leipzig and Borussia Monchengladbach in the title race. In the middle of the week, Dortmund and Leipzig drew 3-3. That game summed up Dortmund since Lucien Favre took over as manager. Under Favre, Dortmund have been one of the best-attacking teams in Europe but cannot defend at a high enough level to win the title. Favre recently switched to a back three, while results were good initially, it has not solved all of Dortmund’s issues. Dortmund have scored the third-most goals in the Bundesliga this season. Marco Reus and Jadon Sancho have each scored nine goals. Sancho has been on absolute fire lately. The English winger has six goals and four assists in his last five Bundesliga games.
