4. New York Giants

The Giants ended a nine-game losing streak in Week 15, albeit with a win over the Miami Dolphins, and Pat Shurmur now has an 8-22 record over two seasons as head coach. As has been cited in multiple places, his predecessor Ben McAdoo didn’t get two full seasons with a better win percentage (13-15) and after an 11-win season in his lone full campaign.

So Shurmur will surely be gone in close proximity of Week 17’s final whistle, and the Giants will be looking for a new head coach again. There is a quarterback of the future in place with Daniel Jones, a stud running back in Saquon Barkley (as much as that might be worth in today’s NFL) and a solid group of other offensive weapons when they’re healthy (Sterling Shepard, Evan Engram, Darius Slayton). With some additions on the defensive side of the ball, and the cap space ($70.2 million right now) and draft picks to do it, this can be seen as a promising situation.

With a tie to general manager David Gettleman from their time together in Carolina, assuming he keeps his job in New York, former Panthers head coach Ron Rivera is an easy candidate for the Giants. No matter who the replacement for Shurmur will be, this might be the easiest job opening to predict and the one that may officially be open the fastest once the games on Dec. 29 end.
