NBA DFS: Studs, scrubs, and duds for December 21
Duds
Kawhi Leonard (at SA – $8,500 on DK; $ on FD): There’s no real revenge at this point for Kawhi. The bigger concern, if you’re a DFS fan, is that Kawhi just isn’t producing big games at the moment. The potential is there but the Clippers have a number of good options and Kawhi doesn’t exactly need to carry the load. Guys like Paul George and Lou Williams are in better positions with how they get points.
Buddy Hield (at MEM – $7,100 on DK; $ on FD): Hield has cooled off and that’s not a good sign. The Grizzlies might be a good matchup as they are on a back to back. But Hield failed to deliver big outings against the Hornets and Warriors. And if you’re not delivering against the Warriors then I have some questions. He does have a high ceiling and maybe there are enough people down on him to where he’s worth your time.
DeMar DeRozan (vs LAC – $6,900 on DK; $ on FD): DeRozan hasn’t been great in recent outings and he’s got a tough matchup as he’ll see plenty of Kawhi and George. He’s also falling out of favor a bit in San Antonio and it’s just not a good situation on a couple of levels. There’s no reason to take him when Murray is at a better price and offers better value.
Julius Randle (vs MIL – $6,700 on DK; $ on FD): This is a tough matchup for Randle and the Knicks, who are also on a back to back. They got some rest as they were blown out again, but they still have to travel. More importantly, they are the Knicks. Randle has been fine, but not spectacular. There is plenty of value below him on this night.
Jaren Jackson Jr. (vs SAC – $6,500 on DK; $ on FD): Triple J had a solid night against the Cavaliers but he’s run a bit hot and cold recently and I prefer someone like Valanciunas, who is at a similar price. I also think Morant has a bounce back game, which is why I’m not as high as Jaren as some might be in this one. He’s unlikely to hurt you but I’m not expecting a big game out of him.
