DraftKings NBA picks December 26: Will Drummond break the slate?
By Mike Marteny
DraftKings NBA Point Guards:
Best Bets:
Damian Lillard ($8,500): Dinwiddie probably wont hurt us, but he’s not going to hit value at this price either. He didn’t in either of the first two matchups with the Knicks. I’ll take Lillard against a team that is so desperate for a point guard that they gave up the former number five pick and two second-rounders to get one they could rely on. Let’s just hope Lillard isn’t as cold as he was on Monday.
De’Aaron Fox ($7,000): Well, the minutes limit appears to be off. Fox played 36 minutes against Houston on Monday and lit them up for 52.25 DraftKings points. Not all matchups will be that nice, but Fox’s Christmas gift is a matchup against the porous Timberwolves. Don’t be shocked if he cracks 50 again. 40 DraftKings points could be the floor.
Honorable Mention:
Ja Morant ($6,800): The last time Morant hit value was four games ago against the Thunder. He gets another crack at them tonight. The rookie has been inconsistent for much of the year, but really, all he needs to go is keep the assists up. Morant is a capable scorer and puts up solid defensive stats. Sometimes he just forgets to pass.
Dennis Schroder ($6,600): The price keeps rising on Schroder, but he’s still too cheap. Schroder has three straight games of 42 or more DraftKings points and has at least 34 DraftKings points in seven of the last nine. Schroder put up 44.25 DraftKings points against this team last week. Expect another strong game from Schroder here.
Ish Smith ($6,100): Smith still had a strong game against the Knicks despite them being tough on point guards. It makes sense though. Ish is one of the few accomplished scorers besides Beal that can walk for the Wizards right now. He’s going to shoulder a lot of the offensive load again tonight, so I see Ish as a strong play here.
Dark Horses:
Gary Payton II ($5,800): I’m super pissed at DraftKings. I was searching high and low for Payton once it was announced that Washington was starting him because I knew he was a threat to blow up like he did. I didn’t see the 11 rebounds coming, and that likely wont happen again, but the scoring and assists are sustainable against the Pistons. Payton will not come at low ownership here though where he may have on Monday.
Elfrid Payton ($5,300): Payton responded well in his return to the starting lineup, putting up even bigger numbers than he did off the bench after returning from a 17 game hiatus. Payton needs a more consistent jumper, but he is a really good passer on a team with good spot shooters. The Knicks aren’t devoid of talent, and Mike Miller actually seems to have a direction. I’m not scared to use Payton anymore. If he starts, he’s getting at least 30 minutes.
Tim Frazier ($3,500): We have a Tim Frazier sighting due to a beaten up Detroit backcourt. If Brown is out, Frazier is going to go well over value here. If he doesn’t start, I don’t know that we can count on Frazier to get enough minutes competing against Galloway and Brown.
