DraftKings college football quarterback picks December 28:

Top Tier:

It comes down to Joe Burrow and Jalen Hurts at the top since I don’t think it’s Justin Fields that cracks that Clemson defense. I mentioned that LSU-Oklahoma is going to be a high scoring game. Oklahoma’s defensive numbers are fortunate because they played a lot of bad opponents. UCLA early, South Dakota, Kansas, the bumbling TCU offense. The list goes on. Burrow had to take on Bama, Florida, and Georgia.

Burrow is the safer pick since he faced, and succeeded, against better defenses. However, Hurts is a huge part of the Oklahoma offense. Literally everything runs through him. I want to use both if I can pull it off. If only using one, I pick Hurts because of the lower price and higher usage.

Middle Tier:

Ian Book had really good games against everyone not named Virginia and Michigan this year. Iowa State’s defense is solid, but isn’t as good as either of those. I expect a good game here. So does Vegas. Book is going to put up good numbers here, but just how good? It depends on whether you think the Irish win or not.

Brock Purdy is only $100 less than Book, but I tend to think that Book has a better game. Iowa State is more balanced and would prefer to run. Notre Dame is not a strong running team for the most part, so I think Book will throw more because he has to. Purdy is a solid play, but I don’t know why you would use him instead of Book with their prices so similar.

Bargain Shoppers:

If you’re slumming, this is a high-priced slum. The cheapest starting QB is $6,700. I think Brady White has a solid game, but he could end up with half the points of Book. With Clifford at less than 100%, I’m a little nervous, but I would pay the extra $300 for him.

When it comes down to it, I would use Trevor Lawrence at a massive discount against Ohio State over both of them. Lawrence feels too cheap, even against that defense.
