DraftKings college football quarterback picks December 30:

Top Tier:

Four of the six starting quarterbacks are separated by just $200. Kyle Trask may the be the least experienced, but is also the most accomplished. Macale Cunningham has the best matchup and the most upside. Bryce Perkins is the guy that can hurt you with his legs. So which one is the best option? We need to look closer.

I can say this for Trask. He never had a game that would ruin your lineup. He had a few in the teens which would definitely be a disappointment at this price, but Trask never had that game that would knock you out of contention. He also broke 30 DraftKings points in two of the last three games.

While Trask closed strong, Cunningham played so poorly against Kentucky that he was pulled in favor of Evan Conley. There’s nothing to worry about on that front though. Conley was even worse. The Mississippi State defense is the weakest aside from Cunningham’s own team, so there’s good upside for Cunningham. He’s a solid runner too.

Middle Tier:

Considering that Bryce Perkins put up 22.44 DraftKings points on a stingy Clemson defense, I think he has a puncher’s chance at putting up solid numbers on Florida. The Gators has statistically one of the best defenses in the country, so it’s going to be tough sledding. The work that Perkins can do with his legs could save his line. He can throw it around the yard as well. This kind of balance gives him a good floor against one of the better defenses around.

There will be no committee approach for Mississippi State at quarterback in this one. Penn State transfer Tommy Stevens will start and play the whole game since Garrett Shrader suffered an eye injury during an altercation in practice and will not play. I think that ultimately helps Stevens. His wheels are almost as good as Perkins and this is a superb matchup against a Louisville run defense that got trampled by Kentucky in the regular season finale.

Bargain Shoppers:

Chase Garbers was back to his old form over the last two weeks, but it’s fairly easy to look good against UCLA and Stanford this year. Garbers put up 50.8 DraftKings points in those two games. The hidden value here could be in Garbers’ running ability. Illinois’ run defense was a sore spot.

Matt Robinson didn’t play well with Brandon Peters out, so I see no reason for Illinois to use him. This is Peters’ game, for better or for worse. I have a feeling it could be worse against the Cal defense.
