DraftKings college football quarterback picks December 31:

Top Tier:

Kansas State was middle of the pack in rush defense, allowing 152.3 rushing yards per game. That’s not bad, but it will look like it against a team that runs like Navy does. Malcolm Perry didn’t throw a pass against Army, but he ran for 304 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Perry has led the team in rushing several times this year and still managed to throw for more than 1,000 yards. He is worth the highest price on the slate.

I don’t know that I really want to pay for Ehlinger or Tyler Huntley. Ehlinger struggled against good defenses this year and Huntley didn’t close the season strong. You can try to attack the Texas defense here, but I think there are better ways to spend the money. First off, paying for Perry. He’s a close to a sure thing as you can get.

Middle Tier:

Dan Ellington isn’t your typical option quarterback. Actually, Georgia State isn’t your typical option at all. They have pretty much phased that out. Ellington can still run, but he is more dangerous as a passer. The issue here is that I don’t know how much room he’ll have here. Wyoming’s run defense was superb, allowing just 99.6 yards per game on the ground. The pass defense was good, but I think the Panthers have to try and attack there anyway. The price on Ellington feels really high to me, especially since he hasn’t cracked 20 DraftKings points since week 9.

Jayden Daniels is a much safer option for me. Arizona did a good job on him, but Daniels is composed beyond his years. He only threw two interceptions this season, and I’m not sure Florida State can force him into mistakes. The Arizona State offense is missing a couple of key components, but I still think Daniels can carry this team. He did in the upset of Oregon.

Bargain Shoppers:

James Blackman is an intriguing option here since Alex Hornibrook is not with the team for the bowl game and Florida State doesn’t have a scholarship running back for this game. He’s going to have to throw whether the team wants him to or not. I would think Blackman will throw more passes and have a longer leash than at any other time this year. That’s as good a reason as any to take a chance on him.

Wyoming will start true freshman Levi Williams in the bowl game. He is the epitome of game manager, although he is a good runner. Georgia State had problems with Georgia Southern’s option this year, and Williams turns this Wyoming offense into kind of an option. The Panthers allowed 211.6 rushing yards per game. I’m not a fan of using Thompson against Navy, but Williams is definitely worth a play on the cheap here.
