New York Knicks: Have faith in the rebuild

Things have gotten slightly better under interim coach Mike Miller, but the New York Knicks need to stay on a course they’ve rarely followed all the way through: have faith in their rebuild, and actually do what rebuilding teams should do.

The first step is playing the youngsters more. There’s no reason for guys like Mitchell Robinson, Kevin Knox, Frank Ntilikina and RJ Barrett to be getting anything less than 25 minutes a night, since this team either needs to develop its cornerstones or identify them as not real cornerstones at all.

Clearing out some of the roster logjam would help free up minutes for the youngsters, and that’s the second step. Trading useful veterans like Marcus Morris, Bobby Portis, Wayne Ellington, Elfrid Payton and Taj Gibson would help the Knicks free up playing time as well as stockpile draft picks and more young talent to groom. Hiring the right head coach will have to wait for the summer, but for now, the Knicks need to commit to a true rebuild and actually stick with it.
