Oklahoma City Thunder: Trade Gallo

After an ugly 5-10 start, the Oklahoma City Thunder have completely turned things around with a 12-5 surge to improve to the 7-seed in the West. They look like a real playoff team, Chris Paul has been excellent and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is becoming a star before our very eyes.

However, as good as OKC has been lately, and as much fun as Danilo Gallinari has been to watch with this group, the Thunder really need to capitalize on his trade value as an expiring contract that could help a contender. Gallo will be a top free agent this summer and Oklahoma City would have a hard time re-signing him whether they make the playoffs or not.

Sam Presti’s focus in the Russell Westbrook and Paul George trades was stockpiling future draft assets, and this should be no different, even if the return is significantly lower. Trading CP3 and maybe even Steven Adams should be on his radar too, but at the very least, this fringe playoff team should move Gallinari before losing him for nothing this summer.
