DraftKings college football quarterback picks January 2:

Top Tier:

Once again, Patrick Ramsey is standing tall as the starting Hooiser quarterback at the end of the season. He doesn’t always begin the season as the starter, but he has made a habit of endiing it that way. Ramsey veteran leadership should come in handy here against a scrappy Tennessee defense. This is an underwhelming slate for quarterbacks. Sometimes you just have to use the best available no matter what the matchup.

I actually like Desmond Ridder far more than Ramsey. Boston College allowed 299.6 passing yards per game this season. Ridder had some bad games down the stretch, but nothing about this Boston College defense (or offense, for that matter) scares me. They lost at home to Kansas for Matt Ryan‘s sake!

Middle Tier:

Dennis Grosel was decent down the stretch for Boston College, but the offense still relied heavily on Dillon. That wont be an option here. We get to find out if Grosel can actually throw and how much. He closed the season poorly, but that was against Pitt and Notre Dame. Those are two good defenses. Grosel is a big risk here, and I wont touch this so long as Guarantano starts for the Vols.

Bargain Shoppers:

Tennessee rode the embattled veteran Jarrett Guarantano down the stretch and all the way to the Gator Bowl, so they’re going to use him almost exclusively here. Maurer may see a couple of snaps, but this is going to be Guarantano’s game unless he plays exceptionally bad. I don’t see that happening. Guarantano doesn’t have a ton of upside, but he’s stupid cheap at just $4,900.
