4. Upgrade The Tight End Spot

Dawson Knox has some good moments as a rookie, as he averaged a very good 13.9 yards per catch. But he also had two or fewer catches in 13 of 17 games (including playoffs). While some of that can be chalked up to low involvement (52 total targets) and Josh Allen’s lack of accuracy, it’s also clear the Bills need to add something at tight end and there’s opportunity to fill a role in the passing game is someone proves consistently capable. Last year’s free agent signing, Tyler Kroft, may end up being cut to clear cap space ($5 million, with $1.6 million in dead money).

The class of free agent tight ends this offseason is “highlighted” by Eric Ebron, Vance McDonald, Tyler Eifert and Vernon Davis. Ebron could be a nice fit, as a viable red zone target (13 touchdowns in 2018) for Allen and a catch radius to corral an occasional off-target throw, but his asking price will have a big say in where he lands as he moves past being an underachieving former first-round pick.

According to Over The Cap, the Bills currently have the third-most cap space in the league for 2020 ($88.531 million). Spotrac has them projected to have slightly more space, at a shade over $89 million, but the premise is the same. Buffalo has the ability to address all of their needs this offseason, and they can be pretty aggressive in doing so.
