5 offseason moves Buffalo Bills need to make to get back to playoffs
2. Add A Power Back
Devin Singletary showed he belongs as rookie, and he capably handled more touches as they came his way down the stretch (603 rushing yards over his final eight regular-season games, 36 targets over the last nine games-including the playoff game). But he’s not a powerful goal line back, with just two rushing scores and low marks in percentage of yards after contact (45.9) and average yards per carry after contact (2.4).
Frank Gore is set to be a free agent, and he may very well call it career. He had more total carries and red zone carries than Singletary this past season (26 to 18 in the latter category), though the rookie missing four games is a factor in that.
In any case, the Bills could use a bigger back as a short yardage and goal line man go with Singletary. Josh Allen’s prowess as a runner helps, but any piece that can be added around the quarterback should be done if at all possible and Buffalo is in the mode to do it while Allen is on a rookie contract.
