Find out who will be taking home the coveted Carol Burnett lifetime achievement award in TV at the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards.

The Golden Globes are notoriously known for recognizing the best in both movies and television every year. They are also known for giving out some prestigious honors that are of the most coveted in all of entertainment. To win one of these is no easy feat, and having a history of greatness within the industry is the core requirement.

Last year the Hollywood Foreign Press and all its infinite wisdom decided to come up with an accolade that would recognize the same accomplishments that the Cecil B. DeMille award does in film but for television. And the Carol Burnett Lifetime Achievement Award in TV was created.

This honor was first presented in January 2019 at the 76th Golden Globe Awards ceremony. Like the Cecil B. DeMille award, which was first awarded in 1952, the accolade was named in honor of its first recipient, trailblazer Carol Burnett.

The Carol Burnett Award is a Golden Globe Award bestowed by the Hollywood Foreign or HFPA for an individual that has showcased outstanding contributions to television both on and off the screen.

This honor is not decided like the other awards given out at the Golden Globes. Instead of having voters pick the recipient, the HFPA board of directors selects the honorees based on their body of work and the impact of their achievements on television. And for the awards second recipient, they have chosen one of the biggest stars ever to grace the small screen.

Three-time Golden Globe nominee Ellen DeGeneres will receive this year’s Carol Burnett Award. The beloved TV powerhouse is the second individual to be honored with the accolade, and she will accept the much-deserved honor at Hollywood’s Party of the Year on Sunday, January 5, 2020.

DeGeneres has been a force to be reckoned with in the world of TV, and her syndicated talk show is one of the most-watched programs on the small screen. Now in its seventeenth season, The Ellen DeGeneres Show has received 63 Daytime Emmy Awards, including 11 for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show, the current record holder for this category. It really is no surprise the HFPA directors made this call.
