NBA DFS: Studs, scrubs, and duds for January 5, 2020
Duds
Deandre Ayton (vs MEM – $6,900 on DK; $7,500 on FD): Ayton has been solid in recent outings and is unlike to hurt you at this salary. The Grizzlies are mediocre against the position and are on a back to back as well. But I’m not sure how much upside he’s going to provide you in this one. I feel there is better value below him.
Damian Lillard (at MIA – $8,800 on DK; $9,100 on FD): I simply refuse to trust Lillard against tough matchups. And Miami is certainly a tough matchup. Lillard always has the high scoring potential but he’s shown a lot of inconsistency this season and Miami is going to make life tough on him, especially after how their last gave ended up going. There more guaranteed value below Lillard, but the upside is appealing.
Kevin Love (vs MIN – $7,400 on DK; $7,000 on FD): It’s weird in Cleveland, who isn’t exactly a good thing to begin with. Love seems to hate everyone on the team, including the front office. He’s still going to play and get his opportunities, but there are too many red flags and uncertainties around him with his attitude and how his teammates could be feeling towards him. The situation is bound to boil over at some point.
Andre Drummond (at LAL – $9,400 on DK; $9,700 on FD): Drummond doesn’t have a ton of help right now and this is a tough matchup against the Lakers. He’s typically good for numbers but he has also shown the ability to just disappear. And given the circumstances, this could certainly feel like a game where he disappears. The trade rumors surrounding him as well might not help.
