Scouting Report. AFC. Indianapolis Colts. 4. player. 46. Pick Analysis. South

The Indianapolis Colts are a very intriguing team to watch this offseason. After reaching the AFC playoffs in Frank Reich‘s first year in Indianapolis, the Colts faded down the stretch in 2019 to miss out on them entirely. They went 7-9 and have the No. 13 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, possibly in a spot to trade up for Tagovailoa in the top-10.

The idea behind the Colts moving up to get Tagovailoa is pretty simple really. Indianapolis isn’t even a year removed from former franchise quarterback Andrew Luck hanging up the spikes and calling it a career. Jacoby Brissett did a fine job serving as a high-end, stop-gap starter in Indianapolis the last two years, but he’s proven he can’t lead a decent team to the postseason.

Brissett is still under contract in 2020, meaning he can begin the year as the Colts’ starter. Should he falter in October or November, Tagovailoa can come in and become the Colts’ starter the rest of the way, as long as he’s healthy. The Colts play in an incredibly winnable division, but one Indianapolis hasn’t won since the 2014 NFL season. Tagovailoa could get the Colts over the top.

The reasons the Colts don’t crack the top-three here are that they are picking outside of the top-10 and will have to trade up to get him, as well as uncertainty surrounding Brissett’s viability as a serviceable starter entering fall camp. General manager Chris Ballard may want to draft Tagovailoa, but we can’t look at the Colts being more than a dark horse for him at this time.
