West. 2. Pick Analysis. AFC. Los Angeles Chargers. player. 13. Scouting Report

The Los Angeles Chargers come in at No. 2 as one of the best destinations for Tagovailoa in the upcoming NFL Draft. Los Angeles went a terrible 5-11 in 2019, getting a mediocre year out of long-time starter Philip Rivers. With the Chargers picking at No. 6 and about the enter their first year at SoFi Stadium, the franchise has to do something to excite a nearly non-existent fanbase.

Rivers may want to keep playing, but how sure are we that it will be with the Chargers? He’s spent his entire career with the organization since 2004, but we’ve already seen more than the beginning of the end of him with the Bolts. He could come back on a one or two-year deal in his impending free agency, or the Chargers may just give the keys to Tagovailoa right from the jump.

The Chargers desperately need to make some noise during their third season in the market. They abandoned a loyal fanbase in San Diego and haven’t yet resonated in the Greater Los Angeles Area. Adding arguably the most popular and talked-about player from the college game in the draft will certainly make the Chargers newsworthy for all the right reasons head into next year.

Ultimately, the Chargers should proceed with caution in throwing Tagovailoa out to the wolves as a rookie. If they want to give Rivers one more year before he retires, that’s fine. The same thing applies to someone like Tyrod Taylor getting the job initially before Tagovailoa ends up taking it from him at some point next year. Frankly, the Chargers need juice and he gives them that.
