Los Angeles Dodgers: Trade for Francisco Lindor

The Dodgers entered this offseason sitting on a boatload of cash and were expected to put it to work by signing one of this winter’s three top free agents — Gerrit Cole, Stephen Strasburg or Anthony Rendon. While they met with all three, Cole and Strasburg likely already had their minds made up on New York and Washington, respectively. Rendon was the best fit for the Dodgers, who need one more superstar bat to put themselves over the top, but he felt more comfortable just down the road in Anaheim because something something Hollywood:

"“I think when people think about California, they think of the straight Hollywood, that glamour lifestyle, whole bunch of flashes and so much paparazzi,” Rendon said. “But everyone just said it’s the complete opposite [with the Angels].”"

Missing out on Rendon is a tough pill to swallow for the Dodgers, who need one more big bat to pair with Cody Bellinger. Luckily, there are a handful of MVP candidates up for grabs on the trade market and the Dodgers have the prospects in place to make a run at them.

Mookie Betts, Francisco Lindor and Kris Bryant are all available to a degree, but Lindor is the best fit for the Dodgers and the Indians have more incentive to deal him this winter.

Trading for Lindor would give the Dodgers a superstar shortstop immediately instead of waiting out Gavin Lux’s development. Corey Seager could be shifted to third base or even included in the trade to keep down the prospect cost. Lindor makes a ton of sense as the Dodgers top trade target, and they’ll have two years to work on convincing him to stick in Los Angeles long term.
