4. Texas A&M

It seems like we’ve been putting Texas A&M in the category of teams ready to emerge for quite some time now, but 2020 may be now or never. Not in terms of winning the SEC West, but in terms of becoming a serious and consistent thorn in the side of higher tier teams like LSU, Auburn, and Alabama.

Much like Kentucky in the SEC East, the Aggies will have a great chance to take a big step in 2020 because of their returning experience. According to Alex Miller of Dallas News, the Aggies will return 20 starters from their 24-21 win over Oklahoma State in the Texas Bowl. Combine that with the level of recruiting Jimbo Fisher is starting to build, and they remain on track to have a season where they become a real threat. Like most teams, it will be up to the quarterback Kellen Mond to take an even more significant step in his development and become more consistent in his play. The offensive line will also need to take a big step because against the best teams; they were overmatched in both the run game and pass protection.

Another thing working in their favor is the beginning of their schedule, they won’t be facing Clemson in their non-conference and should be 6-0 when they face Auburn on October 17.

The Aggies also have history on their side as the last two winners of the Texas Bowl (Texas & Baylor) both made New Year’s Six bowls the next season.
