3. Oregon

Oregon was so close to making the college football playoff in 2019. Still, a slip up against Arizona State ended their chances despite their impressive win over Utah in the Pac 12 Championship.

They capped off their season this an exciting 28-27 win over a very good Wisconsin team in the Rose bowl. And as we look at the state of the Pac 12, Oregon appears to be in a position to control the conference going forward. They’re doing great things in recruiting, and that talent is eventually going to blossom into some elite players. Kayvon Thibodeaux is a prime example as he looks to be heading to superstardom after just his freshman season.

The biggest adjustment, of course, will be replacing longtime starter Justin Herbert who is moving on the NFL. Tyler Shough seems like the most obvious replacement, but the coaches will surely have a competition in the summer. Shough is a former top 150 recruit, so there is talent there; we’ll see if he’s ready. Oregon also has to replace some great players on what may have been the best offensive line in the country. Only rising junior Penei Sewell will return in 2020 as the remaining four starters were all seniors.

Youth will be an issue, especially with them hosting Ohio State early in the season. However, regardless if they win or lose against the Buckeyes, 2020 is the season we could see Oregon fully establish themselves as the new power in the Pac-12.
