DraftKings PGA – 2020 Sony Open Picks

12,000 Justin Thomas

Yes he is the most expensive golfer on the board, but he deserves to be. Thomas is the best golfer in this field and he showcased his talent last week at Kapalua by winning the tournament. Justin Thomas appears to like this course, finishing T16, T14, 1st, MC, and T6 in his 5 appearances. His stats also line up really well for this course, finishing top 5 in the field last year in SG:APP, SG:TTG, and SG:TOT. The only stat that scares me is Justin Thomas’s lack of accuracy off-the-tee, but he has the distance to make up for lack of accuracy.

9,600 Sungjae Im

Sungjae Im had a strong rookie campaign in 2019 and now he looks to continue his success into 2020. Im played Waialae for the first time last year, finishing 16th. He is now familiar with the course, and his game is firing on all cylinders. I am projecting Im’s ownership to be high due to his upside, but he is a difficult fade. He ranks 1st in the field in easy par-70 golf courses.

9,100 Charles Howell III

Chucky 3 sticks is one of the more consistent players on the PGA Tour, hence the 40+ million dollars of career Tour earnings. I will back the veteran this week. He does everything that you want of a top salary golfer. He consistently makes cuts, he finds the top-10 with frequency, and he is an above average DK scorer versus his finish. In the stats that I am looking at, CH3 pops in T2G, DK Points, and wedge proximity. It has been 9 years since the last time CH3 missed the cut at this event. He has a slew of top-10 finishes at the Sony Open between 2011 and now. With the field as it is, I trust CH3 to deliver a solid finish.
