NBA DFS: Studs, scrubs, and duds for January 7, 2020
Duds
Andre Drummond (at CLE – $9,700 on DK; $10,300 on FD): The Cavaliers are better against the position than you might imagine. Drummond will most likely give you a double double and then some but will he end up as one of the top three scorers on the night? I have my doubts. He’s not going to hurt you, I just find there will be more value based on salary below him.
Julius Randle (at LAL – $7,300 on DK; $7,100 on FD): Randle is an inconsistent high salary option and this is a tough matchup. There was a time (last season) when Randle would seemingly dominate the Lakers at every turn. But he was on a better team then and the Lakers weren’t nearly as this good. He might not hurt you but don’t expect him to be over value.
Ricky Rubio (vs SAC – $7,100 on DK; $7,000 on FD): As Booker keeps up his hot scoring run, Rubio has taken a backseat. The matchup is good as it’s the Kings and there should be plenty of offense. But with what Rubio is giving you as of late, there’s plenty of reasons to avoid him. If you believe in Booker having a big game like I do then stay away from Rubio.
CJ McCollum (at TOR – $6,700 on DK; $6,900 on FD): McCollum is listed as a game time decision but my guess is he ends up playing. And if he does, you should stay away. It’s a tough matchup and the Blazers just don’t inspire much confidence when it comes to tough matchups. If McCollum is out, then stay away from Carmelo because he’s going to get more shots and he’s Carmelo against a good team.
Jarrett Allen (vs OKC – $6,000 on DK; $5,500 on FD): Allen hasn’t been good in recent matchups and now he’s against the Thunder, who are very good against the position. Even at the slightly lower salary, there’s no reason to take Allen based on his recent outings. There’s plenty of value below him that is guaranteed and has a higher ceiling.
