2020 NFL Mock Draft: Tua declares, then heads to South Beach
By Brad Weiss
The New England Patriots saw their 2019 season end in stunning fashion on Saturday, as they lost at home to the No. 6 seed in the playoffs, the Tennessee Titans. The only reason the Patriots were playing in the Wild Card round was because they lost the week before to the Miami Dolphins, which was another shocking loss inside Gillette Stadium.
Entering 2020, there are more questions than ever surrounding this franchise, as the loss could have spelled the end for Tom Brady in New England. Of course, team owner Robert Kraft wants him back, but Bill Belichick has not stated he does as well, which means Brady’s Patriots career could end with a game-losing pick-six.
During the 2020 NFL Draft, the Patriots have to do something to bring in some weapons on the offensive side of the ball, and LSU’s Justin Jefferson is making a strong case for being a first round pick. Jefferson has the speed to attack on the outside deep, but also runs great routes, which is paramount in this Patriots offense.
The New Orleans Saints hosted the Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card round on Sunday, and many expected Drew Brees and company to roll over the Vikes at home. However, the game went into overtime, and the Vikings won the coin toss, taking over with a chance to win the game with a touchdown.
After a Kirk Cousins touchdown pass to Kyle Rudolph on a fade pass on the first drive of overtime, the Saints season was over, which was a shocking end to a season that many believed would end with them hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. Looking ahead, it will be interesting to see where this team goes, as Brees will be a free agent, and they may look to move on from him.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Saints need to make improvements as well, including at getting after the quarterback. Adding a talent like K’Lavon Chaisson from LSU makes a lot of sense, as he not only is able to get after the quarterback, but he makes his living making stops behind the line of scrimmage.
