2020 NFL Mock Draft: Tua declares, then heads to South Beach
By Brad Weiss
The Denver Broncos utilized their second round pick on Missouri quarterback Drew Lock during the 2019 NFL Draft, and towards the end of the season, he looked to be the answer at the most important position in sports. Lock led the team to victories in four of his five starts, and should be the guy going forward in Denver.
Looking at the other side of the ball, the Broncos could use some help up front along the defensive line, and Javon Kinlaw from South Carolina is one of the more versatile defensive linemen in this draft class. He not only is solid against the run, but he has the athleticism needed to get after the quarterback, and this Broncos defense was pedestrian on too many occasions this past season.
With Lock under center for the long run, the Broncos can switch their focus on other areas, as they look to go back to being a threat in the AFC West in 2020. If Lock is the real deal, the Broncos are in good shape, as it is no secret that John Elway has been looking for Peyton Manning’s successor for years now.
The Atlanta Falcons were one of the bigger disappointments in the NFC this past season, although a late season winning streak helped Dan Quinn keep his job. If Quinn is going to continue to be the head coach after the 2020 NFL season, they are going to have to turn this thing around in a hurry, as it was not long ago that they represented the NFC in the Super Bowl.
That Super Bowl run for the Falcons was magical, as they had the perfect mix of talented players on both sides of the ball. Atlanta has the talent on offense to put points on the board, but they need help on defense, especially when it comes to getting after the quarterback.
Yetur Gross-Matos from Penn State is one of the better edge rushers in this draft class, and he has already declared himself eligible for the 2020 NFL Draft as an underclassman. Adding him to this group would only help the likes of Vic Beasley and Takkarist McKinley, two guys who can get after the quarterback, but struggled to do so in 2019.
