AEW Power Rankings: Week of January 8, 2020
Tag Team Division
No. 1 — SCU (last week:1)
SCU started off the week on Dark. Daniels tried the Arabian Moonsault, but hesitated and Angelico took advantage. The tag team champions got the W with the SCU Later.
On Dynamite, the champs came to the aid of Christopher Daniels when he was attacked for turning down the Dark Order’s invitation to join them.
No. 2 — Dark Order (last week:4)
The Dark Order came to prey upon Christopher Daniels after yet another loss. Evil Uno told him that the fans didn’t believe in him anymore. He handed CD a mask and the fans chanted “SCU!” When Daniels declined the invitation, he was attacked for his decision.
No. 3 — Hangman Page/Kenny Omega (last week: ranked as singles)
Hangman Page ran his mouth last week when he told Private Party that he could beat them both. Page & Omega have been teaming as of late. They both seemed to be on the same page (no pun intended) with Page even stopping himself from mistakenly hitting his partner. They hit a Buckshot Lariat/V-Trigger combo. Omega successfully hit the One-Winged Angel for the win.
After the match, PAC appeared on screen, beating up Nakazawa again. Omega went after PAC, leaving Page behind to drink beers from random fans.
No. 4 — Rhodes Brothers (last week: ranked as singles)
Cody & Dustin both started off with the same move; going down on one knee and punching their opponent under the chin. Cody hit the Cody Cuter which was followed by Dustin’s Final Reckoning for a win over the Lucha Bros.
No. 5—Jurassic Express (last week: 6)
Jurassic Express faced AEW fans’ dream opponents: Best Friends and Orange Cassidy. Stunt put TRENT in a side headlock. Stunt & Jungle Boy used their unique teamwork, which included using Stunt as a weapon. Stunt spiked TRENT on his head. Luchasaurus also used Stunt as weapon. Jungle Boy got the rollup pin for the win.
No. 6—Best Friends and Orange Cassidy (last week: TRENT & Cassidy in singles)
Best Friends and Orange Cassidy especially are super over with the AEW fanbase. During the commercial break, Best Friends took over offense. The fans went nuts when Cassidy was finally tagged in. He did his patented kicks on Luchasaurus before nailing a tope suicida. Unfortunately, they didn’t come away with the win.
No. 7—Lucha Bros (last week: 3)
The Lucha Brothers maintained some offense against the Rhodes Brothers. Fenix attempted to bring a chair into the ring, but Arn Anderson stopped him. Fenix reversed Cody’s CrossRhodes with a cutter, but was ultimately pinned by Dustin.
No. 8—Private Party (last week: 5)
Private Party have befriended Hangman Page, but he’s become increasingly unstable. Last week, he told them they were ugly and he could beat them both. After he took their drink, which cost $12, they challenged him and Omega. There were a bunch of flips and a flatliner. They got in their signature moves, Silly String and Gin & Juice. It wasn’t enough to put them away. Hangman still owes them money.
No. 9 — They Hybrid 2 & Kip Sabian (last week: unranked)
Chuckie T referred to TH2 as the “Kings of Dark” and he isn’t wrong. TH2 has been tagging with Sabian lately. They took on the tag team champs and some fancy moves to show off. Sabian did a twisting neckbreaker off the top ropes and Jack Evans nailed a standing corkscrew moonsault. Sabian was accompanied by Penelope Ford, who got in on the action with a swinging DDT. For all of their flashiness, it wasn’t enough for a victory.
