NBA DFS: Studs, scrubs, and duds on DraftKings and FanDuel Jan. 13
Duds
Josh Richardson (at IND – $6,500 on DK; $5,800 on FD): The Sixers continue to be in a weird position without Embiid. Richardson has the potential to step up in a big way but the pieces doesn’t exactly highlight his strength, reducing him to needing buckets. And he doesn’t always get buckets. It’s a tough matchup, and while his salary isn’t bad, there isn’t a ton of upside.
Buddy Hield (vs ORL – $6,300 on DK; $5,800 on FD): The return of Fox has helped Hield for the most part but he’s also an inconsistent option. And now he’s up against a Magic team that can strangle teams with their style and pace. Hield will mostly get the shots in this game, but Fox is doing more on the whole and if the shooting isn’t there, is can be a rough night.
Collin Sexton (at LAL – $5,500 on DK; $5,500 on FD): Sexton has big scoring potential but doesn’t always given you anything in other categories. And that’s going to be a problem against the Lakers defense, especially if they have one or both of LeBron and Davis back. The Lakers make life tough on scorers with their team defense and if Sexton doesn’t have that going, he’s unlikely to make up the value with his playmaking or rebounding.
Jaylen Brown (vs CHI – $6,300 on DK; $6,100 on FD): Brown is in a bit of shooting funk right now and this will be a tough matchup for him to break that. The Bulls are good defensive team and the game between these two teams a couple of weeks ago wasn’t a big scoring affair, though Brown did play well. Tatum is the one who has it going right now and that’s who you should have your eye on at the moment over Brown.
Devonte’ Graham (at POR – $7,300 on DK; $6,600 on FD): It’s been a struggle for Graham as of late (though he was good against Phoenix) and even though I don’t trust the Blazers defense, I also don’t trust the Hornets on a back to back. And I don’t trust how Graham has played as of late. This could be an offensive affair where Graham regains his form, but as he’s currently going, there are better options below him. It’s almost a toss up between Graham and Rozier because they seem to be taking turns on big games right now. Rozier will likely bounce back due to the law of averages.
