Underclassmen

There are more future NFL players who will be big parts of the National Championship Game, but they’re underclassmen who are still at least one year away from being eligible. The biggest name is undoubtedly Trevor Lawrence who could end up being one of the best prospects ever scouted when his college career winds down, presumably after his junior season next year.

Trevor Lawrence, Clemson quarterback

Lawrence would have been the top pick last year as a freshman but still has one more year before he’ll be draft-eligible. His arm talent is phenomenal, he’s calm under pressure, and his accuracy is top-notch. He has yet to lose a college game as a starter and could leave college as the best quarterback prospect of all time.

Tyler Shelvin, LSU defensive tackle

Tyler Shelvin has been fantastic this season for LSU’s defensive line, showing excellent strength and hand usage to discard offensive linemen and make plays in the backfield. He will only get better as he develops and could be the top defensive tackle in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Justyn Ross, Clemson receiver; Ja’Marr Chase, LSU receiver

Clemson’s Justyn Ross and LSU’s Chase could be two of the top wide receivers for the 2021 NFL Draft. Ross made a big impact as a freshman with a 1,000-yard season and has 17 touchdowns in two seasons with Clemson. Chase has the speed, contested catch ability, and the ability to create after the catch to be the leader in the clubhouse for 2021.

Derek Stingley Jr., LSU cornerback

Stingley has been the best freshman player in the country and is a big reason the Bayou Bengals have such a great secondary to provide Clemson with a big test. He has incredible ball skills (six INTs, 15 PBUs) and great technique down the field. He’s already drawing Jalen Ramsey comparisons and should be a top-five pick like Ramsey was in two years.
