2020 NFL mock draft: Chargers lock onto Justin Herbert
By Brad Weiss
The New England Patriots lost to the Miami Dolphins in Week 17 of the season, and with the loss, they also lost getting a bye in the Wild Card round, and hosting a Divisional Round game. Instead, they had to welcome the red-hot Tennessee Titans to town, and when all was said and done, it was a stunning end to their season in front of the home faithful.
This is an organization with some huge decisions to make this upcoming season, as there still is no word as to whether or not Tom Brady will be back under center in 2020. If he does come back, this franchise has to get him some more weapons on the offensive side of the ball, including bolstering the running back room.
One of the few first round prospects in this draft class at running back is Ohio State’s J.K. Dobbins, who is going to be an exciting player at the NFL level. Sure, the Patriots need help at wide receiver, and tight end, but sitting at No. 23 overall, Dobbins may be too good of a long-term prospect to pass up.
The New Orleans Saints were absolutely shocked in the Wild Card round by the Minnesota Vikings, who needed overtime to get the victory, but did so inside the Superdome. For the Saints, they, like the Patriots, have a decision to make regarding their future Hall of Fame quarterback, who played poorly in the team’s loss to the Vikings.
Whether or not Drew Brees returns this upcoming season, this is a quarterback room that could see a lot of change, as Teddy Bridgewater is scheduled to hit free agency. Bridgewater went 5-0 in place of the injured Brees during the regular season, and him getting a starting job somewhere has got to be in the cards.
With pick No. 24 overall, the Saints may decide to roll the dice on a potential successor for Brees, bringing in Jacob Eason from Washington. Eason has everything you look for in a quarterback at the NFL, and if Brees really is coming to the end of the line, they need someone who can take over in a year or two.
