2020 NFL mock draft: Chargers lock onto Justin Herbert
By Brad Weiss
The Indianapolis Colts had a good start to the regular season, and many believed that they would be one of the teams fighting for at least a wild card. However, they had to deal with injuries and inconsistent play in the second half of the year, and were one of two teams from the AFC South to find themselves on the outside looking in at the playoffs.
This is a team with a lot of questions heading into next season, including what they plan to do with quarterback Jacoby Brissett. The organization has not committed to him being the answer under center for the long haul, so one can only wonder if they plan to possibly move up in round one, or to take a swing at guys like Jacob Eason, Jake Fromm, or Jalen Hurts here at No. 13.
Odds are, the Colts will roll with Brissett for one more season, meaning they should utilize this first round pick on their defensive line. Javon Kinlaw from South Carolina is one of the more versatile defensive linemen in this draft class, and teamed with guys like Malik Hooker and Darius Leonard on this young Colts defense, he could be a real difference maker for them up front.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are another team that is close to being a playoff contender, and one who has a big question mark when it comes to their starting quarterback. In his first season under the tutelage of Bruce Arians, Jameis Winston led the NFL in passing yards, but he also threw a ton of picks, including one that ended their season.
Whether or not he is the answer moving forward is to be seen, as Arians was non-committal after the season. The team could decide to go with him one more season, putting the franchise tag on him, but they could also, like the Colts, go after his successor in the of round one in guys like Eason, Fromm, or Hurts.
If they stay with Winston, I like they to use this pick on their defensive backfield, bringing in arguably the best cornerback in this class in Kristian Fulton from LSU. We saw the kind of impact he can have on a game during the Tigers’ national title win, and in this young, inexperienced Bucs secondary, he could step in and be a leader right away.
