NBA Trade Deadline 2020: The 20 best players available
10. Marcus Morris — F, New York Knicks — Salary of $15,000,000
This is the part where I reiterate that this list ranks trade value based on what a player could offer to a new team exclusively this season. And Morris is on a heater this season.
His usage rate has skyrocketed to a career-high level, but so too has his efficiency. He’s scoring with ease from deep, in the post, and even in isolation. He’s strong and mobile, with good handles and a surprisingly good first step. He has good body control with deft touch around the rim. Morris has been the lone bright spot among all the vets the New York Knicks signed over the offseason, and he has been incredible. When he’s been on the floor, the Knicks have been a good team! That’s saying something.
It’s possible Morris’s newfound efficiency doesn’t last outside of Gotham. He doesn’t have a history of helping teams to the extent he is this year, and it’s unlikely that players take such huge leaps in their ninth season and playing for their sixth franchise. But if Morris’s hot streak continues, or if he’s actually become almost a star-caliber player, he would give any contender the third scoring option so needed in today’s NBA. The Miami Heat, Utah Jazz, or Dallas Mavericks could greatly benefit from his presence. Because he’s on a one-year deal, the price probably wouldn’t be exorbitant.
